Dear Mr. Roth:
I am responding to your request for information pertaining to
pigeons and their transmitted diseases. I am not aware of any
reported cases of diseases that were transmitted by pigeons in Mohave County.
"Pigeons are not harmless birds. They have been described as
rats with feathers. The description is most appropriate because free flying
feral pigeons transmit over 40 diseases and are a serious health hazard
to humans and domestic animals." This is a direct quote by Walter J. Weber
the author of Health Hazards From Pigeons, Starlings and English Sparrows.
The Lake Havasu City Mayor, Mr. Richard Hileman, requested
the Mohave County Health Department recommend that the city organize a
citizens committee to activate an abatement policy for the pigeon problem
in Lake Havasu City.
Sincerely.
